Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 10, 2026
FourJars ("we", "our", "the app") is a family allowance tracking app operated by Eddie Ishak. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Data We Collect
We collect only what is needed to run the app:
- Account information — family name, member names, assigned emojis, and a parent email address (used for PIN recovery and email verification).
- Transaction data — earn, spend, save, and donate records entered by family members, including amounts, notes, categories, and subcategories.
- App settings — allowance amount, interest rate, donation goal, and a 4-digit parent PIN (stored server-side).
- Push notification tokens — device tokens for sending approval and request notifications via the Expo Push service.
- Analytics events — screen views, feature usage, and actions taken within the app. These include your IP address and approximate country for aggregate geographic reporting.
2. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
FourJars is designed for families and may be used by children under 13 with parental involvement. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA):
- A parent or guardian creates the family account and manages all settings.
- Children's profiles are created by parents. Children can only view their own balances and submit earn requests for parental approval.
- We collect only a child's first name and an emoji identifier. We do not collect email addresses, photos, or precise location from children.
- A parent can review, modify, or delete their child's data at any time through the Manage Family screen or by contacting us.
- We do not serve advertising or share children's data with third parties.
3. How We Use Your Data
- To provide the core service: tracking allowances, balances, and transactions.
- To send push notifications for earn requests and approvals.
- To calculate monthly allowance and savings interest.
- To understand how the app is used and improve the experience (analytics).
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. Data is only transmitted to:
- Expo Push Notification service — to deliver notifications to your device.
- ip-api.com — to resolve IP addresses to country codes for aggregate analytics. Only the IP address is sent; no personal information.
5. Data Storage & Security
All data is stored on a secured MySQL database hosted by Bluehost in the United States. Communication between the app and server uses HTTPS encryption. Access to the database is restricted to the app operator.
6. Data Retention & Deletion
Your data is retained as long as your family account exists. You can delete your entire family account and all associated data (members, transactions, settings, and analytics) through the Manage Family screen in the app. Alternatively, contact us and we will delete your data within 30 days.
7. Your Rights
You may request to access, correct, or delete your data at any time by contacting us. Parents may exercise these rights on behalf of their children.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
